    Hitachi M12VC speed settings

Does anyone have any information regarding the speed setting on the Hitachi M12VC ? What speed does each setting equal? I know the top speed is 24000 and the low speed is 8000.

    Thanks

I know there's a post here from many years ago that gives some ballpark rpm numbers for each setting. Try using the google search for it. I think it's by Joe2006

Here are numbers for my own M12VC made with my old R/C model propeller tachometer this morning. It calibrates correctly when it's looking at the overhead fluorescent lights (60 Hz). Top rpm is not the 24,000 that's advertised, and your own measurements may vary from mine depending on your particular router, ac voltage, and tachometer. I would add that mine has some minor noise from the lower bearings due to lots of use and these rpms may be shifted downward as a result.

I have a PreciseBits collet system and a 1/4" x 1" router bit installed. I put a layer of black Gorilla tape around the collet nut and trimmed off any excess, then painted half way around the tape with Wite-Out correction fluid.

    Speed setting #1 = 6,533 rpm
    Speed setting #2 = 8,783 rpm
    Speed setting #3 = 11,583 rpm
    Speed setting #4 = 14,150 rpm
    Speed setting #5 = 16,783 rpm
    Speed setting #6 = 20,050 rpm

C1, It seems like your voltage is a bit low, since you should also be seeing 8,000 on the low end. 6500 seems really slow.

I was editing the post when you replied. I have a duplex outlet on the Z axis and the router cord is cut to 24" length. Measured voltage is 121.5vac with the router running on #6. There is a 12' extension cord to the wall, and that may be where there is some voltage drop.
