    High Torque Stepper Motors

4200 oz-inch stepper motors are available from mainland China, whereas from Keling maximum 2830 oz-inch motor is available.

Has anybody tried these high torque motors? and what was the experience in acheiving the indicated torque?

What are the other sources in North America to get a stepper motor at reasoable price, with more than 4000 oz-inch torque?

Is it possible to drive a shaft by connecting two motors to both ends of the shaft to get the commulative torque of two motors?

    Thanks,

    Ross

What is your intended use of these large motors? They don't spin very fast, and are not that smooth at low speeds, They're probably bet used in positioning applications.

It is to be installed in a feeder to move rectagular bars of variable x-section into a special purpose grinding machine.
The weight of each bar is 250 to 400 lb.
The stock removal from the surface is controlled by programing and varring the feed rate of the bar depending on the requirement and x-section at particular position of the bar.
The feed rate vary between 8" per minute to 24" per minute.

Why not use a 1000 oz in motor with a 4:1 gear ratio? You will likely get much better performance at a lower price.
