    HELP motor tuning

    Hello
I am new to CNC and have just finished my first diy cnc(metric)
I am having problems setting the stepper motors up.
I have Nema 23, 200 steps per rev
my board is set to 1/8 micro steps
    My lead screw is 1turn = 2mm

Can someone help me work the motor tuning out for Mach3

    Thanks
    Kevin

    Motor tuning

    Hi Kevin
You want to find the number of microsteps to cause the axis to travel 1 mm.
One rev is 200 steps which is 8*200=1600 microsteps
So if 1600 microsteps moves one rev, it will move 2mm.
Therefor 800 microsteps will move the axis 1 mm.
So you put 800 into the box for the axis in the Motor Tuning screen.

The manual is OK at explaining this if you go through it very carefully.

Don't forget to do a test after you set everything up. My calculations were 1280 steps, but testing meant I had to change it to 1290 steps.

Is there a accurate way of working out the lead screw pitch as I bought mine from eBay & they didn't specify what this was , sorry if this is s thick question . I used the automatic setup in Mach3 but not sure if that's the best way?
    Cheers
