    which of peter smid books is better for a newbie?

    Hi,
    I'm working with grinding machines so i dont use G-CODES very often,
    never the less from time to time i encounter an issue that needs some
    understanding in G-CODE programming.
    I've seen these 2 books from peter smid on amazon and i wonder
    which of them is best for begginer:

    1. CNC Programming Techniques: An Insider's Guide to Effective Methods and Applications

    2. CNC Programming Handbook, Third Edition

    P.S.
    Other names of good books to start with will be welcome.

    Both of them. All of them. #2 first if you have to pick and choose. The actual machine and control manuals are also big helps. Many manuals are downloadable now. Look here for a Fadal manual: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/fadal/...nd_basics.html

    The attached document would give you enough information about G-codes on a lathe. Haas manuals are also quite good and freely downloadable.

    Of course for a beginner level the CNC Programming Handbook, Third Edition by Peter Smid is a valuable resource.

    Anyone know of any of the Peter Smid books are in ebook format?

    Both Amazon and Google don't have them in any electronic format.

    Kindle edition of this book is available:
    [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Programming-using-Fanuc-Custom-Macro/dp/0071713328/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1341719441&sr=8-2&keywords=fanuc]CNC Programming using Fanuc Custom Macro B: S.K Sinha: 9780071713320: Amazon.com: Books[/ame]

    However, this you would need only if you want to learn macro programming.
    This book is not for learning basics of CNC programming. In fact, it assumes that background.
