Worm Gear needed for Clausing Lathe

I have a Clausing 8100 lathe (21" model)...they are the same as the Colchester Mastiff as well. The apron feed gear box has one brass worm gear in it that has worn out. The gear is about 3" in diameter. Clausing wants not only $1200 for the replacement, they also want 3 weeks. Do any of you have any idea where I might be able to get the gear data for this gear so that I can have it made, or another source on the gear itself? As I said, there is only one brass worm gear in the apron gearbox and it is part number 42261-1. It is a 28 tooth gear. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
