    Leveling/stepping on Curves

    Seen several problems "like" it....

If you Cut a Half-Sphere... it's made of many levels
but increasing toolsize/stepover doesn't decrease the Z axis plateaus?

I think it's related to scalloping?
I think I'm just missing a fundamental concept...
(Cutting along the Short/Vertical axis makes it a normal scalloping problem... but for some reason it shaves off the original Model when I do this)

and then lastly, that curved line that it slices into my nice clean funnel side.... whatthehell is that? (Topside) it's an utterly smooth model /

Looking at your screenshots, you don't know how to use the software. Post your file if you want help. Also, the third screenshot is not GibbsCAM.

    Lol, seriously?

    thanks guy.

I know I don't know how to use the software, there are no tutorials except the help file & I'm working off an old seat to get it up for prototyping.

There's no roughing pass b/c it has nothing to do with the problem,
    what else did I miss?

It's simplified/etc straight from the Inventor plugin,
and the 3rd screenshot was an example of the problem...

I can cut the shape just fine with Prism carving, but that's not the point

I also don't know how to include the tool/machining/processes in the saved file (File rename .vnc)

Everything in the vnc file is saved with the file, toolpaths and all, so just upload the file used in the screenshots and I'll check out what you have going on. The file you did upload opened just fine, it just doesn't have any toolpaths.

Based on your screenshots, Z0 is at the bottom of your part and your operation clearance planes are .200 for the approach and .100 for the exit, which is below the top of the part. Thats where your crashes on the right side are coming from. You are cutting to the part with zero stock, but have an almost .09 scallop height, so you see that as the tool moves across the part in several areas. Surface Flow is a legacy toolpath for finishing curved surfaces, not good for steep/vertical walls, whole body or multiple surface selections, or for using square endmills. A standard 2D swept surface is many times better for the cone than a 3D toolpath. If you want 3D, use Advance 3D instead of the legacy stuff.

    Aw that sucks!

thanks guy... even read TFM, thought it was, 0.2 Above the maximum stock surface

(that file was what happened when i saved as .vnc

that sounds good though, I thought I was using the more advanced toolpath already, thanks!

(Bleh, yes, that was exactly what I was looking for)
