Delay during tool change on VF2

We have a ’97 VF2 and recently I noticed that when it does a tool change there is a pause before the carousel moves away from the spindle. Example: the spindle goes to position, the carousel moves to the in position, spindle goes up, tool changer goes to the selected tool, spindle goes down and then there is a delay of three or four seconds before the carousel moves back out to the home position. The carousel seems to move at normal speed when moving in and out but there is a delay that it did not used to have. We changed the motor for the tool changer several years ago and the limit switches about a year ago and other than that it has been working fine for fifteen years. Is there a certain level of tool clamp pressure it needs to reach or something before it sends the tool carousel out?

    Thanks for any help,
    Jim

Clean the out going filters on the tool change piston solenoids. And possible the solenoids themselves. Sounds like the air isn't getting out fast enough and the piston takes its time hitting the switch that says the tool is clamped. If it gets any worse and you will be getting tool un-clamp alarms.

    Thanks Mike,
I kind of thought it might be something like that.

You do have to pull the spindle housing cover off, but not a tough fix. Watch the wires on the tool release switch as you can damage that plastic switch. Solenoids mounted in the rear, inside.
