I'm in the testing/learning stage of my Fine Line Automatio 2' x 4' build. I'm stumped on this. Building to specs leaves the z-axis frame with about 7.5" clearance between the bottom of it and the spoil board. The router (Bosch 1617) is mounted as low as it will go in it's K2 mount. The problem is the collet is way to high from the spoil board with the z-axis in it's lowest position. I figure to accommodate short bits and have a decent amount of the bit into the bite of the collet I need to be able to lower the collet to about and inch from the spoil board. To do this I had to lower the z-axis frame about almost 2.5" leaving about 5" clearance from the bottom of the frame and the spoil board. This clearance is reduced to 4.5" due to the mounting of the z-axis limit switch. Is a collet extension needed or is there something else I can do? My understanding is a collet extension will increase runout. In essence I have reduced the z-axis travel to 4.5" by lowering it's frame. Thanks.
