You can't put 6 journals the same diameter on the end of anything. They would merge into 1 journal. What are you using as the reference point to determine run out? Do you mean the journal is not round to itself? Do you mean each journal is not running true to an adjacent journal? What is the width of the journals? What is the distance between the journals?

1018 will probably stress relieve. Recommend hold material close with 4 jaw and center drill. Then hold material long with center in tail stock and rough machine all journals to 0.030" over. Then rough machine all to 0.010" over. Then finish machine all.

What he means is bro, the journels are 6" long on each end and 1.438"diam.

    Didn't you read the post?

On a job like this you first need to drill centres on the ends , and they can just be marked out and drilled with a conventional drill, just to get them into the ends of the bar.

Then you can machine the journals between centres the normal way, taking care not to go too fast or the bar will vibrate and spoil the finish.
