New part just finished that I'm particularly proud of...

I just finished this up last night and was very happy with how it turned out. No ridiculously tight tolerances, it's a valve cover for a car community that I cater to. All it needs to be is aesthetically pleasing and to function.

    The part is 6061 and is 18" x 9.5" x 1.75" and it was machined on a 2011 VF-2.

It looks a lot nicer than one stamped out of sheet metal and I bet it costs a lot more than one stamped out of sheet metal.

How many minutes/hours/days did that take to carve out?
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.

Cycle time is somewhere in the 5 hour range with 3 setups. It's a little over 2 hours worth of surfacing. Thanks guys!

I love seeing parts for the first time. Especially when they turn out just as planned. Nice work on that cover.

I never get bored watching the first version of anything getting machined out of the blank.

    Very nice!

I've had tons of folks trying to get me to make 'em valve covers. I must have better excuses than you! (or cheaper folks askin')

If what it needs to be "All it needs to be is aesthetically pleasing and to function." then you sure are way beyond half way there, now on to see if it fits.

    Haha, thanks guys!

It's a valve cover for a 4g63t (came in the turbo Eclipse, Talon, Galant VR-4, and Evo 1-3).

    And Ken, it fits!!

This is the bottom side with the gasket installed before I finished the top.

    Thanks again!

It was fun programming it and watching it take shape. Machining is mesmerizing at times.

I can understand completely! There's something really satisfying about making small piles of shiny bits of metal from bigger bits of metal! Love it!

    cheers,

Excellent job, what cam package did you use to create the program?

Very nicely done, and it has to be much stronger than the stock cast part!

What is the emblem that you've engraved on the cam sensor end?

I used HSMWorks to program it.

Yep, and these stock ones crack all the time. That is the tag logo for my company, Frontline Fabrication.

I kind of like the inside better then the outside, but I think that has to do with the fit of the seal. Very nice.
