    Z-axis plunge movement question

I was cutting my first part this weekend and I couldn't help but notice how slow things were moving because of the plunge rate.

Basically I set the plunge rate low because I was working with a 3/16 end mill and deep pockets. The problem is I take a pass and then Z comes back to the original height..well after a few passes its taking minutes to get to material.

Would like the plunge to be fast until it reaches a certain distance..seems the software should be able to calculate that and reduce machining time.

    Hi Dan-

I will probably do something like what you've mentioned at some point but there's nothing in there to handle it now. I've stuck with the current system for a while because it's "safer" in the face of some of the very difficult models that MeshCAM gets (regular pockets are easy but the more organic 3D models can be MUCH more difficult).

It's not a short-term change but I'd like to get to it in a future release.

Thanks for feedback Robert. I imagine the programming would be involved in order to insure safety...fun stuff to sift through though.

My backup plan is to hand edit the gcode once I'm happy with the part.

Your program is the only one that handles what I throw at it
