Okuma OSP5000L 2151 Command Error in MDI

I have a question.. I have a OSP5000-M and OSP5000-L . On the M when you are in MDI, you do not have to press F1 Data input every time you enter a command in MDI, But on the Lathe, if you dont press F1, it gives you a 2151 Command Character Error. Is there a setting different between the two? If you dont press the F1, and it throws the error, it forgets all the previous entries and just is annoying sometimes.

Unfortunately you are stuck with the lathe doing that. From what I was told back in the early 90's, two different software groups were involved. One for the mill, one for the lathe. There are other differences I'm sure you have found as well.

it is really is a PITA the differences like that eh?
Lathes common variables are referenced V1 V2 V3 etc
Mill reference common variables as VC1 VC 2 VC3 etc...
    hmm...

well it is frustrating when I run the mill everyday and the lathe about 1 time a month, When you are used to not pressing the F1 to input on the mill but get halfway through a quickie on the lathe, like when I am setting up tools, and ya "forget" to press F1, then start on over. I was wondering if it was a simple parameter change, but no worries,, I will survive!

just checked my OSP7000L. when I press MDI it automatically
sets the command line to 'IN ' and I don't need to press 'DATA INPUT'
If I remove 'IN' and type a command I get your same error.
If I remove IN and press 'DATA INPUT' it adds IN at the start of the command line.
So on your OSP5000L I suspect when you press 'DATA INPUT' it's actually adding 'IN ' to the command line.
You could just get into a habit of typing IN first. Or you could press 'DATA INPUT'
