    New SL603 - No M19 ?

We took delivery of a Mori SL603 lathe last week. We finally got it all hooked up and the application engineers from our dealer were performing some training for our operators yesterday.

One of the operators tried a M19 command to orient and lock down the spindle so he could put some jaws on the chuck. The spindle just rotates without an alarm and doesn't execute the command.

The apps guy then told him that M19 was an option? :bs:

IMHO M19 is one of the most basic M codes that every new lathe should have.

I put in a call to the main apps engineer at our local dealer and he said he's looking into the issue. I expect a call back today, but wondered if anyone else out there has been thru this on a newer Mori lathe?

if it has a C axis and live tooling then it should have spindle orientation (M19)
    otherwise no.
the machine can't lock the spindle without a C axis. Basic maybe, but its an option regardless and is only available with C axis and live tooling option.

    That's strange. We had a 2007 SL403 without C and it had M19. Same with a 1989 SL35, an even older 25, and 15.

All of our Doosans without C option have an M19.

We have three speeds on this one, so it has to be finding it's home.

So how does one safely operate this machine? How do you remove the chuck or even the jaws when you can't even stop the spindle at a fixed position?

    Option
And just like every other lathe built since 1971. Put it in low gear.
If the 403 has it, it either has live tooling or was purchased with the option.

Low gear sometimes doesn't cut it when your chuck is 32" around and you have a 6 foot cheater pipe to it.

$500 estimate for fanuc to drive out and turn it on, even though it's doing it everytime it switches gears.

Doosan says it's standard on every lathe they sell.

Mori said it used to be a standard option
