    New old lathe

Hello everyone new to the site. Just bought me an old atlas lathe I think not sure going to have to scrub on this thing to see if I can find a mod number or something any help with identifying this would be great.
And has anyone seen a pulley style like this ?

    Yep that's an old one.
    Sure it's an Atlas?
Lots of good info here on old Atlas lathes.

Go to the main page if you find out the exact model, huge resource on old lathes.

Might have a look at these old Logan models too to help identify it.

If you need parts be sure to check Ebay, I found very nice Logan parts there.

It has a similar feed lever as on Boxfords.

But it's just a guess, too bad the belt cover with the name is missing.

I noticed the switch cover says south bend looks like the original but might not be.

The shapes of the castings sure look a lot like my old 9" South Bend. Mine is from about the 50's, but yours looks like it might be a bit older than that. Looks like it's in fine condition, though...

Deffently not atlas with flat belts. I would guess southbend also. Check out this site for info on old machines.

Not an Atlas .. they have flat ways.

It looks like a South Bend 9" .. possibly WWII era.
Looks to be a usable machine as is, but only one way to find out! Also looks like it's got babbit bearings in the spindle which can be re-poured if necessary. If it's strictly for home/hobby use you will probably be able to work around the normal wear & tear of an old machine. The nice thing about the SB's is there's tons of parts available on ebay. Enjoy! .. I love my 60yr old Logan 11"

And if you get an itch to restore it, spend some time looking at what others have done with these machines & you'll be drooling in no time!

    Nice Southbend.

Check out the Southbend Yahoo group if you haven't already.

Hoss, very nice web site, man!
