    Rotary broaching on turret lathe

I have a W&S 2A m-2519 turret late, I am wanting to rotary broach Internal and external 17mm square or double square with this machine, will I have enough end force to do this process on carbon steel 1045? If there is more info needed please advice me. This is my first post here, but have lingered for some time.

    Stimey,
Do you know what kind of thrust pounds your machine is capable of? A 17mm square is a very large size for rotary broaching and will likely create at least a couple thousand pounds of pressure. There are quite a few factors that determine this, and if you can optimize them all you may get it to work:

    1. Pilot hole size must be oversize as much as possible.
    2. Room for chips in the hole.
    3. Minimize depth of the form.
    4. Undercut for chip break-off if possible.
    5. Chamfer to the sharp corners is required.
    6. Eliminate sharp corners to reduce chip size.

Yes I agree this is not practical, I spoke with Slater the other day and they have the same opinion. The rotary broaching approach is really cool, I guess there is limits to everything. Thanks for the input.
