    Turning stepper motor without driver?

I need a slow turning motor for a small project, and a stepper motor sounds like the best bet, but I don't have a spare driver...

I have a few small DC and AC motors, but they spin too fast and when I slow them down they have next to no torque.

So, is there any way to use a 12 volt power supply and a POT switch to spin a stepper? I haven't tried randomly hooking it up as I didn't want to damage the motor if someone here had an easy answer for me.

    Thanks, Taylor.

A DC motor generally has highest torque at zero RPM, same as a stepper?
What are you controlling it with?

A POT on the AC motor, and ESC on the DC ones. They stutter when I have them turned down, so maybe they just don't have enough torque then. My original idea was to gear it down, but I don't have enough room to do much gearing and that was when I thought of the stepper.

If you have a couple spare steppers, hook the wires of the two steppers together and turn one. The other will also turn.

You can run a step motor from 12VAC. One winding connects to the transformer secondary while the other winding must have a capacitor in series with it when connecting to the secondary. The motor will turn at 72 RPM in the US (60Hz) and at 60 RPM in places that have 50Hz AC.
