    How to drill in a carbide material

    Hello,

    I want to drill a counterbore in a carbide material. How should i do that ? Should i do EDM or something else ?

    Hi Ashish,

    I think "M3381 Counterbore Drill Set" will help you to drill a counter-bore in a carbide material.

    EDM would be simplest.
    There is tooling available for conventional type machining but HSM quality machines and CAM is required.

    Maybe in Australia, carbide is soft.....

    EDM, or if you have enough spindle speed you could grind it, although thats quite slow.

    For a one-off you could make a crude approximation of a counter bore by using a high speed hand grinder and a diamond grinding pin. I guess you could get more sophisticated and rig up the same grinder on your lathe.
