Mach 3 & Feed Rate Override

I would like to incorporate a feed rate override switch into my lathe with Mach 3. We use this feature to block through the first job to make sure everything is OK.

It certainly gets the blood pumping with the turret rappeding towards the chuck spinning at 1000 RPM hoping that it will stop 3mm from the face.

The original system had analog servo drivers and used a simple pot to override the feedrate from 0 - 100%. Am I able to do something similar with a step and direction input?

I'm pretty sure you can hook up a cheap encoder to the parallel port and assign it to change the feed override. It has nothing to do with the step and direction signals.
