Hi
I wish to have a large flat bed plotter say 36" x 48" (900mm x 1200mm) could be slighty smaller 30" x 40". It is for drawing with a 'sharpie' marker pen or pencil on to canvas. The canvas is framed so it would need a clearance of 1". I am drawing in 2D and will have a HPGL plot file or a DXF file to send to it.

I would love to build a CNC table from scratch but I am worried about controlling it. I would not want to get into programming and code and I don't need much of a Z axis.

My thoughts at the moment are to purchase an old A0 - 33" roll plotter and place the plotter as a gantry above a moving base. The existing roller mechanism would have to move the base forward and back as the plotter draws on the other axis. With this method no coding would be needed as it would use it's existing windows drivers.

I would be grateful for any advice as to whether this is practical and the best way to go on this.

Thanks in advance
