    4th axis steps

Just ordered indexing head, I have a gecko540 @ 40000 step per inch.
Will it be 144000 per revolution with a 72:1 ratio?

    I don't think so

The Gecko drive doesn't have a specific step-per-inch rating. That depends on the motors, screws and gears. The micro-stepping of the drive just multiplies the step rate of the motor by 10. The 4th axis is calibrated in degrees; that's your unit. So the calculation of steps per unit is as follows: Motor steps times the micro-stepping factor times 72 divided by 360. Assuming you've got the most common type of stepper motor, with 200 steps per revolution, that is (200 x 10 x 72) / 360 = 400. Try that and see how it works for you.

He included microstepping in that calculation.

    200 steps/rev *10 mirosteps/step * 72 handle revs /360 table degrees = 400 microsteps / table degrees.
