I'm a little confused with file backups on Fanuc controls. Can you just backup the SRAM from the boot menu? Does the SRAM contain the programs, offsets, parameters, ladder, etc.? Do I need to backup anything from the boot menu if I backup everything separately from the GUI side. What do you recommend I backup regularly? Please help me understand the memory side of the controls.

it depends on the control and how things are stored. as far as I know the SRAM holds the offsets, parameters, PMC parameters, programs etc. everything except the ladder.

as a general rule backup things separately.
regular parameters, PMC parameters, ladder. you don't need to re-backup unless something changes in these 3 areas (it shouldn't normally).

you should already have good housekeeping and have copies of programs stored on a PC or memory card so you don't need to back those up again. and offsets you can easily re-set yourself manually. you could backup offsets if you happen to have a 100 or 200 tool ATC to save time.

If you have a windows screen, you will need to make an image of the hard disk!

programs running in the control in production should have been backed up before letting them loose on operators. again, good housekeeping :-)
yeah, backup the OS too including HDD or other OS storage media.
we would know exactly what if he had not omitted the control type :-/
