Hi, We do a lot of gun drilling on a large horizotal Makino machining centre and on CNC lathes. size ranges from 4mm to 20mm and sometimes 500-600mm deep. we are using high pressure coolant pumps. We have looked at different soluable coolants but was wondering if anybody has experince with coolants and can recomend some. We also gundrill Berryluim copper but only short deeps but use the gundrills for finish.

All people who gundrill I know, useing only non soluble coolants with hp detergents. Its better for the tool, the workpiece, the machines. But a hp oil is much more expensive than a water soluble cooling. And you need a mist exhaustion and fire extinguisher into the machine.

I operated a gun drill a loooong time ago. We used sulfurized HP oil. That stuff stinks!!!!!

I would think there are better gun drill coolants available now. I would contact Trim Chemical or some other well established supplier and see if they have something for you.

I know the suppliers have done wonders for grinding coolants.
