Can I add a profile probe to create files from a model?

Hello. My first post after purchasing the plans.

In addition to using the CNC router to create "carvings" can I fit a probe and software to allow the production of 3D files from a one off physical model?

I have in mind making reproductions of historic wet plate/ambrotype/tin type cases.

Thoughts and suggestions for further reading on my part? I am an advanced woodworker and reasonable metal worker but a complete newbie in CNC routing.

Please feel free to correct my terminology.

I also have some experience in programming and work with Mac, PC and Linux.

I am glad to have found this seemingly very supportive group.

    Thank you

If the part to be 'probed' will fit in the work volume, I see no reason why it would not work.
The router chassis will just move the probe according to the software commands of your 'scanning' program.

The type of probe and the software to generate the file is a completely different subject. I am sure there is a section here in the Zone covering that.
