    Mazak w/T-32 control

    Hey Mazak Guys,

Our mid-80's Mazak turning center with T-32 control has generated an alarm:

Alarm 223: TAILSTOCK QUILL SENSORS MALFUNCTION.

The manual gives the following description: "The tailstock spindle position detection sensors fail to function, or both the sensors are ON simultaneously."

However the machine has no tailstock.

    WTF?

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance.

    Shekar,

    Thank you for your response.

I don't know how this would have changed, but we'll look at this parameter later today. Is this the equivalent of a Fanuc pc ("user") parameter that would indicate that the machine was equipped with a tailstock or not?

    Please advise.

    CHECK IF PARAMETERS ARE AVAILABLE

    HEI FRIEND,

MOST OF THE MAZAK MACHINES WITH T32 CONTROLLER WILL HAVE R-PARAMETERS FROM R49 TO R72 IN BIT FORMAT AND EACH BIT FOR DIFFERENT OPTIONS/FUNCTIONS THAT HAVE COME ALONG WITH THE MACHINE.(not EIA,DNC etc)

TO CHANGE YOU HAVE TO KEEP THE PROTECT KEY ON AND PRESS PARAMETER KEY.
YOU WILL GET USER,MACHINE LIKE THAT.
PRESS MACHINE PARAMETER AND GO TO PAGE 11( I think).

BEFORE CHANGING IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO NOTE DOWN THE ORIGINAL VALUES.

    After trying this pl post.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for all the responses.

When I got back to our machine the other day I found that we had more
alarms than what I was initially told.

All the alarms were referencing competing signals for machine functions.

    * Tailstock extended and retracted signals competing
    * Tool presetter up and down signals competing
    * Turret clamp and unclamp signals competing

After speaking with an unusually helpful fellow at Mazak, our best guess
is that the Mitsubishi i/o board (MC323) is the likely culprit.

We sent the board out for repair and should have it back late this week.

I'll update this thread once I've had a chance to install and test the
    repaired board.

    Thanks,

    Mazak homies,

Well, we had to have the MC323 i/o pcb repaired twice but after the
second repair the machine / control comes up normally with no alarms.

One problem still exists however. Now the machine does not recognize
    turret stations 13 - 16. It indexes normally to stations 1 -12.

I suspect that in our initial attempts to resolve the problem by turning
off the parameter bit that designates that the machine is equipped with
a tailstock or not (R59.6) we inadvertently turned off the designation of
the number of available tool stations.

    Can anyone help? ("Shekar" ??)
