    stp file not opening

My friend just bought SW 2013 and I'm trying to learn it but cannot get this file to open. I have a stp. file and dxf. file as well as a stl. file. The stl file will open but doesn't allow me to edit it. The stp file gives me an error about missing data. Can someone help me? Thanks

I was only able to open the stl file as a graphics file only. Unable to get anything but a pretty picture from that.
The other files had critical surface areas and would not open.
As said a x_t or xmt, x_b or xmb would probably work better. Even give Iges a shot.
If that doesn't work try SOL

    file from boardcad

Thanks Guy's, the files are generated from a free surfboard design program called Boardcad 2.1.. The only files it exports are nurbs to step., dxf., and stl..
I've seen where people are opening in rhino but I don't have access to that. Is there any way to clean up the file and get usable data? When I look at the stl file in featurecam it only consist of a skin surface in a top and bottom section. I would like to get a solid part that I can split into to shells. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Forrest

Well I used the dxf file and imported to Solidworks. Then exported to a xmb file and reimported. Was able to get a file with many surfaces and gaps. I don't know if its useable for you or not. You can check with the Boardcad people to see if they can increase the resolution of their output file and "maybe" it will knit up. I'm not real confident though.

    Good luck

    Forrest,
I cleaned one of the stp file saved as parasolid file.
I don't know which version of SW you got.
Anyway open this file and you can do an Import diagnostics and select Attempt to Heel all.

    Hope this helps
