    Vertical mill retrofitting

Some years ago i bought an old mill, it's a FIAS Berico FV-2gap, it was in bad conditions but with a nice guide.
I decided to bought and starting conversion to cnc but it was not easy...
As u can say in the pictures attached i started to clean accurately the mill and paint it as a new one, with blue and white poliestere paint, then i disassembly all the parts and remove all the original gears and screw to get a new ballscrew, with double 0 backslash ballnut and with 2:1 pulley HTD for trasmission.
I decided to use 6A, 6Nm stepper motor sanyo Denky with italian RTA Mind B4 driver, i also used a big power supply 380v.

I had also the problem of balancing the weight of the whole group of the z axis, so I decided to use a piston air that I connected via a chain and two referrals to the group, using two solenoid valves connected to two pressure sensors keep the piston at the necessary pressure required to reduce the weight by about 80% and it works very good!

I started the construction of the 4-axis, I used the head of a small lathe made very well, so I'm building a steel base that will allow me to secure the assembly to the table of the drill.
with this basis, the height of the center spindle is 150mm, very good, then I will use a DC servo motor and an electromagnetic brake

Somethings news abaut the 4 axes, i'm building a new one who can works with chuck and with a trunnion table, it's a big axes retrofitted by me.
i decided to remove all the original mechanism from inside and install a reductor with a servo dc motor, then i will put an encoder on the reduced line to have the best precision possible.
I also build all the support to use 2 precision conical bearings as you can see in the pictures
