    Program up/download to PC on RS232 , 18i-T

    Hello everybody !

I have to solve the download and upload programs from PC to Fanuc 18i-T CNC. Somebody tried before to solve it but the result was 0 and now I see that the serial port #1 of CNC is damaged . I use the standard db25/db9 cable described in fanuc manuals, software handshacking .
    My questions are :
    1. Can I use the second serial port through channel 2 with appropriat parameters setting to communicate with the PC ?
2.To transfer files it is necessary to use a dedicated program or it can be made with a common serial communication software, eg terminal, hyperterminal, etc ?
3 .When I want to read files from the PC , after pressing "read",filename,"exec" the screen has no change, no blinking "LSK", nor"input" on lower right corner and no errors!! Why ??
    Same when trying to "punch"
Par. 3202 has set bits 0 and 4 to "0" to enable the program handling.

    par 20 is set 2
    pars 121-123 are set for 9600-e-7-2 .

    4. Why the CNC does not even try to send or receive ??

Glad if someone could give me some advice.

    Best regards

    Thanks for reply !

Well if I had possibility to use the card slot, I had no reason to play with the RS232 caused complications.

    Hello,

Are you sure you don't have a card-slot at the left side of the screen ??

    Hello,

You can use channel 2, par. 20 = 2 is ok.
Press soft key [SETING] and look if I/O channel = also 2.
You use 9600-E-7-2 so your PC-COM software needs the same setting.
    Did you check the cable?

    Thamk you for reply,

    Cable is ok.
Now I understand that I can use channel 2 for up/download, the cable from the db25 on the cabinet I plugged into serial #2 on the CNC respectivley to JD36B.
It gives no more err086 but after the key sequence "read",oxxxxx","exec",nothing happens on the screen, no indication that the CNC is waiting for signal from PC.Is that normal ?

    Best regards,
