Hi there,
I am trying to acheive smoother surfaces on my CNC when cutting plywood with a 12mm ball nose.
I use Rhino 4 and Cut 3D.
I have been using the 'patch' surface tool to generate random contours over boolean shapes (mostly truncated cones)
I adjust the stiffness to acheive the desired 'flow' and then adjust the mesh to as fine a setting as possible.
This is then exported as an .obj file to Cut 3D.
It is there that I can really start to see the polygon facets.
When this g code is transfered to the CNC these facets are reproduced, leaving a fair amount on sanding to do after the operation.
Is there a better way of generating this surface to achieve a smoother tool path?
The images attached show the process.
This workpiece is only 300 x 300 x 48 mm in size.
I am wondering if Nurbs is a better form of polygon generation, or if I should use a different method of surface generation?
