Those of you building water pans that have the air bladder under the pan, how are you dealing with rust inside the bladder? What about the dirty water going to the bladder and sediment forming in the bottom?

It's a good question that, its something I'm wondering about as well..

I use Sodium Nitrite (not Nitrate) and Physum 20. The Nitrite takes care of the rust and the Physum takes care of algae. It doesn't take much , works great, and is cheap.

I also use a 60 mesh screen on the return to the tank and it keeps most of the larger particles out of the tank. When I close down in the winter, I empty the tank and clean it out however I get very little sediment out of it.

I don't have the exact formula to mix the quench since the shop is closed for the winter but it's here on the zone someplace. Use the search for Sodium Nitrite and Physum.

Here is a recipe that was posted by plain ol bill some time ago. I believe the general consensus is to use sewer tracing dye instead of food grade dye now:

PLASMA QUENCH RECIPE

Here's the recipe for home-made PlasmaQuench
1/4 pound of sodium nitrite powder ($15/pound)
1 teaspoon of Physan 20 ($8/8oz bottle)
1 oz Ultramarine blue food-grade dye ($5/oz.)
Mix well, treats 75 gallons of water.

The physan 20 has many uses too, like your mill coolant system to keep tht ugly smell away or your fountain to keep the algea away.

These quantities will last a long time. I have a 400gl table and have only changed water once in two years, I do have to replenish from evap but not often.

Forgot to mention the particle in the tank problem, We use a baffle right before the drain/fill holes. They are 2.5" npt fittings and the baffles stop any heavy particles from going down the drain so to speak.The lighter sediment gets mixed when draining and will pop right out if you fill straight away, pushing out all the dirty water into the tray.
