Vero Software acquires SURFCAM from Surfware, Inc.

    Press Release

    February 7, 2013

Camarillo, CA – February 7, 2013 - Vero Software, the world’s largest and number one CAM specialist is pleased to announce the acquisition of the SURFCAM assets from Surfware, Inc., a US based software specialist responsible for the development of SURFCAM and the award-winning TRUEMill technology.

Commenting on the acquisition, Richard Smith, CEO of Vero Software says, "Across the enlarged Group, the complementary products address the worldwide need for efficient and innovative CAD/CAM/CAE technology. SURFCAM is a robust, and well respected CAD/CAM system with a large number of loyal customers and knowledgeable resellers. With an emphasis on sharing already proven technologies, we will provide the development platform to reinvigorate the SURFCAM product and continue to help its customers become more efficient, profitable and successful. Following our recent European acquisition of Sescoi (WorkNC), this US acquisition is further evidence of our growing influence on the global manufacturing market. We fully recognise the importance of product branding and it is important to emphasise that we will continue to invest in SURFCAM through our new subsidiary Surfcam Inc., and welcome the existing US and overseas Surfware partners and resellers into the Vero network."

Alan Diehl and his son Larry originally founded Surfware in 1988, with Alan’s other son Bryan joining the company in 1990. Regarding the change, Alan says, “We have dedicated our lives to developing innovative and productive machining technology. Just as importantly, we enjoy customer and reseller relationships that are the envy of our competitors. We know we are joining a group with a similar view. We are confident that Vero’s additional resources and global distribution will take SURFCAM to new levels of efficiency, and will continue to provide solutions that boost our customers’ productivity, reduce costs and improve quality."

Could be good news. Actually I was hoping they would have merged with a good CAD program so it would make their interface somewhat usable. The way it is now makes it the most stressful and frustrating program on the planet. I hope Vero didn’t pay too much with a plan to spend money on making it usable with Windows 7 or 8 or...

    Picked it out...

The one thing I picked out of the release is, "...reinvigorate the SURFCAM product..."
It seems that maybe they also believe that it needs to be reworked a little or at least marketed better...

    Hopefully it was cheap...

I am so happy that Vero bought surfcam, they have been lagging for a long time. Vero brings real big tech to the table. I have Edgecams modeler and since Vero bought Edgecam the modeler was improved more than it ever was in the past. Truemill kicks some major ass and I'm sure that was a huge reason Vero bought them but Surfcam as a product has not improved as much as any of it competitors, hopefully under Vero they will kick but again.

Could be that they’re moving it over to the Vero website like they did with Edgecam and the dozen other CAD/CAM software programs they own now. I noticed that they have announced a new general manager over Surfcam products. Also in the announcement they said Surfcam has over 26K seats installed, about double what I expected.

I am happy Smurfware was bought out of business. I would like to see Vero fix SurfCam up and make it as it should of been 10+ years ago, but I certain they will strip True-Mill from it and it will go down hill after that. I hope I am wrong.

I don't think Vero can UNDO what the Diehl's did, much like SurfClam couldn't add UNDO functionality to their data bases
