Problems setting up parallel port Mach 3

    Hi guys

So i have got my cnc controller hooked up to a pc and everything is running fine with mach3.

But i have another pc from which i want to run the cnc.

To make sure i didn't make any config errors i copied the mach3 folder from one pc to the other. The problem is that i get no communication from the parallel port.

The second pc has a lot more options regarding parallel port so i not sure what´s the best. I think ECP is the correct option, to i tried several variations on the settings with no luck. The relay on the breakout board does click when windows is booting so i assume it's not an hardware issue.

I can also set the parallel port address to 378 (as is set in mach3) or leave in auto with no sucess.

All the parallel port setting in both windows are identical so i assume it's not that either.

    Took some pictures:

    Any help?

    Any help?

    Try EPP.

What do you mean you get no communication?

Did you run Drivertest.exe from the Mach3 folder?

    Hi

    srry for the late reply.

There is no EPP only option. Only ECP + EPP so i assume that is what you mean.

The no communication statement means i cannot control or read back anything from the breakout board. For example if i do auto-setup of pins, and press E-stop nothing gets detect, while in the other pc it picks up the correct pin for E-stop.

    Will try the Drivertest.exe.

    Tks

ECP + EPP won't work (although you'd think it would). Look one more time in the BIOS- there might be some odd DOS thing you need to do to see the other options, like pressing Enter, then an arrow key. Sometimes down at the bottom of the screen there are instructions telling you what you have to do. Otherwise use this other computer for something else, and keep shopping...

I realize some time has passed since the OP posted this. I can offer my thoughts on how to fix this.

In the original post, its stated that the OP copied the Mach 3 folder from the original PC to another. Mach 3 has to be installed on the new computer, the files cannot be copied from one location to another. During the installation process, the system registry is modified to tell the operating system how the new software interacts with everything else.

Install Mach3 normally and only copy the .XML file from the other Mach3 folder.
You parallel port might only be 3.3v and the BOB requires 5v.
