It says on the spec plate on the motor, amongst other things ... Perm Magnet DC Servomotor - Volts 140, Pulse Amps, 50.

Could somone explain to me what pulse amps are ? If they are the same as normal amps that would meen that this single axis motor is consuming about 6kw of power. I'm sure that cant be right!

I suspect that "pulse amps" means momentary surge current. In the motor you're talking about, this condition occurs at locked rotor stall. This is also why locked rotor is limited to a 1% or so duty cycle.

And, yes, you do consume LOTS of power when you stall PMDC motors - and you can also create LOTS of SMOKE. This is why a servo amp with a properly working and configured protection circuit are critical to their operation.

Made some phone calls today, found out that 50amps is the peak rating, 8.6 amps continious.
