Acrylic cutting issues with non perspex acrylic...

    hello,
When I order acrylic sheet i usually get sent perspex, however this time, when the black arrived it was covered in a blue plastic covering. When I have cut with it I have found that it looks like it just melts the plastic and the cut out pieces stick to the outer acrylic and also, the top of the cut out piece along the cut line has little blobs also like it has melted. I have attached an image to try explain, the image has 2 of the same. I have circled on 1 and then you can see it on the second. The whole of the cut edge is raised and slightly bubbled.

I am using HPC LS3020Click image for larger version.

Does anyone know why this happens? I need to sort it asap as I have someone waiting for items

    Thank you
    Amy

    Hi Amy,

That looks more like beam scatter, black tends to pick up scatter more so than any other colour. when speed and power are you using?

drop by here and look for DaveN, he has a 3020 and a lot of experience in fault finding.

    best wishes

    Dave

I don't do laser stuff but your description suggests to me that you received some extruded acrylic rather than cast acrylic.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.

    Yes, you are right...
Ya, it happens when there is no setting of the axes for the cutting...
    Take care of it...

Extruded should actually cut better than cast , perhaps what you got was not Acrylic (Perspex is a trade name)
You can tell if it is cast or extruded by burning a small piece , cast acrylic will burn with a crackly flame and not drip molten flaming balls , extruded will drip molten flaming balls and burn with a silent flame.
