    fault register firmware flag

    Hi all,

maybe someone could help or can be helped in the future...
my problem is an undocumented fault: in gdtools "firmware" fault register
on leds: green and blue on still and red blinking, braking on.

this fault is raised at every power up or reset, just after motor pole alignement, and also more or less often while running (from each ten seconds to ten minutes).
fault cannot be cleared by external switch (only got 1 switch on opto_in_2 setup as disable in, clearfault and user_bit_status).
when i clear fault in gdtools, all is working for a while ( test motor config, torque step response and even pwm_in).

    my config:
    torque mode,
    pwm input on opto_in_1,
1 switch on opto in 2 setup as disable in, clearfault and user_bit_status,
opto_in1-, opto_in2- and com hardwired together,
no shared pins between spi and com except GND.

logic 12v, tested 3#, from wall adapter to high quality computer PSU.
    HV 25v: big n heavy lab PSU 60V 30A +12000µF 63V + 3 parallel 1N4002 +self.

    motor
    tiny yaskawa SGMGH 30, 4poles pair (8poles) ,0.4R ,12.5mS electrical time constant (so 4.8mH theorically i think) 200V 22.8A continuous 56A peak
encoder absolute 5V TTL single ended, no index
pwm frequency set at 20kHz limited to +- 80% on each side, update rate 1ms

    some of my attempts:
12v logic + 25v + spi : firmware fault as on screen capture
    12v logic + spi : drive waits for motor initialisation, status flags "follow error recovery" and "enabled" on. green off, blue and red blinking;
when 25V on, init then flags as screen capture, leds green and blue on, red blinking.
when fault cleared in gdtool, all up and running, device status as on screencap, fault register empty.
12v logic + COM from controler : init, then leds green and blue on, red blinking. cannot go further.
12v + 25v, no motor nor encoder, drive says initialisation fault (luckilly).
i tryed to to re-flash drive, but didn't change anything
also tested at HV from 15 to 45v ... not better
init without encoder plugged ... idem
    etc...
i don't know what to do more. it's a pitty as drive, when working, is a damn good stuff!

    not solved yet

why subject closed as not solved?

    news of the WE:
setting motor pole to 2 allows me to boot VSD ok when connected to GD_tool
but can not run it standalone, still same problem, booting it without SPI adapter leads to
leds blue and green on and red blinking.

to be sure, i tested the motor with a small DC source connected between 2wires, and i get 4 stable positions per turn...
motor opened, i counted also 4 pole pairs.
it sounds like vsd runs better with false configuration...

still unsolved, what means firmare fault and leds diag as said...?

I wrote an article how to find more info of the fault:

Let me know the result to help solve this!

    Hi all,

    at last it works!!!
the tool gave me anonther strange error : 9998 which doesn't appear to exist, so i tryed to:
unplug everYthing but 12v and spi adapter
    flash drive with standard firmware
    reset
error 10000 while no HV, then error 9998 and strange led behaviour
    flash drive with dualDC firmware
    reset
    ...... flash ok ......
    reflash with standard firmware
...... flash ok....., drive ok and all is now working as it should
even 4 phases motor, inputs, etc.
it must have been a bad flash process at factory
hope it may help someone else
and thanks Tero for your help

I missed the 9998 error, so I updated the list of error codes.

Did you use DualDC firmware for AC motor or with GDtool? That probably is the error. You need to flash singleaxis firmware for AC/BLDC motors (VSDE-VSDXE-160-Singleaxis-V208.gdf).
