    Question 31i Model A - G87 side drill with full retract? (Hardinge T42)

    I'm doing some deep hole side drilling and I'm looking to do a G87 cycle but with full retract instead of an incremental. To my understanding this can be changed in the machine parameters. Alternately, if anyone knows how to manhandle the P9136 deep drill cycle into X interpolation, this could work too.

    Thanks in advance!

    I believe you're looking for parameter 5101 bit#2

    G19 is a milling machine default meaning X Y arcs leaving Z for depths peck drill works in Z direction

    If you change to G17 or G18 you will peck in a depth not used for arcs.

    G17 = X peck depth
    G18 = Y peck depth
    G19 = Z peck depth

    Alright, thank you so much! Back to making chips! I was drilling .047 x .600ish deep in aluminum using HSS. Incremental retracts were not properly clearing chips and causing the drill to break.

    Paramater 5101 works, right bit is labeled RTR.

    Will this parameter change affect all my other drilling cycles or is it specific to G87?

    It affects both G83 and G87. You can change that parameter "on the fly" if you control has Programmable Parameter Input:

    G10 L52
    N5101 Rnnnnn1nn (SET 5101.2 = 1) <---- n is the current value of other bits.
    G11
