    800w Spindle Slipping

    I have a Chinese 120w 800w spindle with a 1.5kw 120v VFD.

I was testing cutting in aluminum and stalled as the bit pulled the machine down. I shut everything down but noticed spindle sounds like it was spinning internally as it slowed down but not the bit. I've now just tested holding on to the chuck during start up and notice it slips a little bit internally but seems like that maybe be the way it is made. It seems to provide a bit of torque while trying to spinup. Anyone happen to know if that is how they are designed or was something damaged?

The above post is supposed to say 800w 120v.

I took my spindle front cover off yesterday and took a look at what could be spinning inside the motor when it stalls. The shaft is directly connected to the core of the motor and the magnetic field just couldn't provide the torque required. It sounds like the motor is continuing to run and slip but in fact that is not possible.

I took photos but appear to have lost them when my phone crashed

What spindle RPM were you running at when you stalled? These spindles don't have much torque at low RPM.

No idea, that was too long ago. But I recall that the Z had pulled down into the material and then started to slow then stalled.
