    j325 error

Hi all, i have a new error now. We programed the spindle to come on at 250rpm, and it rotated at about 40 rpms. Then it stopped and spit out an error that said " 136 premature end, motor overload." What do I need to look at, could it be the encoder?

    Thanks, Sal

Check the spindle drive unit. Probably blew a fuse. It's common for the vents behind the spindle drive to get plugged up, then the drive overheats and cooks.

Thanks underthetire. Do you think the fuse could cause my other error? It reads "PIC REVISION #400, MOTOR OVERLOAD.

    Thanks, Sal

Pic revision probably doen't mean anything, its just hanging at the motor overload. Spindle drive, coolant pump thermal trip, can both cause that alarm. The 136 i'm sure was from the spindle never reaching speed, but i don't have manuals on those any longer.

Thanks again, I'll go and see if I can find the fuses. Would it be a buss type fuse? I've seen them in the Dynapath cabinet.

    Thanks again, Sal

Yes, but there is also one in the spindle drive itself. You have to remove the top cover to get to it. If the display on the drive is dead, and you have 3 phase power to the drive, then it's probably the internal fuse.

The display isn't dead. When we turned the spindle on we had the cabinet door open to see if the drive would show an error. The display would read single digit numbers like 1 or .1 then go away when the spindle shut down. I do have a manual and the 136 code says premature end.

Somewhere I read that on the spindle brake locked up causing an overload. Now I don't know if I have one but when the spindle was rotating at about 50 rpm's it was squealing. To us it sounded like a belt.

    Thanks, Sal

There is no brake on a J325, only on the vari head j310. If it was making that kind of noise, you have something very wrong. Can you turn the spindle by hand easy?

Yep the spindle turns easy. Tonight I looked at the fuses on the spindle drive and they are white, I can't tell if they are broken. I'm going to have to replace them.

    Thanks, Sal

Think you blew a transistor in the spindle drive. Cheaper to buy a multimeter rather than replacing fuses that may be ok.
