    bad latency test results

I have been running linuxcnc on my laptop for a about a year now with no issues. I dont have a machine built but I hope to soon if i can sort out my computer issue. Before i was getting latency test results around 4000/5000. A few weeks ago one of the memory modules died on me and i got a 'could not mount' error on boot. I swapped out the memory ran a memory test and no issues.

Now when i run the latency test it runs good for a few minutes then jumps to around 300,000,000. Also it will freeze up for a few a seconds just surfing the net. So far here is what i have tried, nothing has helped
    - swapping memory slots
    - ran a memory test no problems
    - bios hard drive test no problems
    - computer is dual boot with XP. XP runs perfectly(games, cad, internet...)
    - reinstalled linuxcnc (same problem)
    - livecd with linuxcnc (same problem)

Anyone have any ideas what else to try?

You may not like it but here it goes:
Just do NOT use the laptop to run an machine. Get an old desktop for that.
Laptops are a recipe for disaster.

You can use the simulator for preparation on the laptop:
    LinuxCNC buildbot

Thanks, well the laptop decided to give up completely so the problem fixed its self.

I have heard that a million times not to use a laptop but of all my old computers it ran the smoothest with the latency tests. Oh well time to drag out an old desktop
