I have a 1996 ELU 860 CNC workstation that has performed well over time but shows random errors with direct feeds from newer PC's. I did overcome the problem significantly, but not entirely, by slowing the BAUD rate to a trickle on the PC's IEC connection to the unit. I believe now is the time to replace the entire controller by a unit that is capable of handiling today's speeds.
This may be a hasty decision. The real problem is that while making name signs the unit will perform well to a point where the head will randomly go to the zero point of one of the axis, ruining the work-piece. (Any suggestions here?)
Does a new controller seem to be the way to go? Any suggestion on generic controllers that can control this unit? New or used? The ELU 860 is a fairly slow machine with a working range of 860 mm X 860 mm X 90 mm (~34" x 34" X 3.5") (X,Y,Z).
Thank you,
Marc (alias: Cap-size)
