    Question Smooth Stepper or not?

    Question:

I've heard allot lately about Mach 3 not liking addon PCI Parallel Port cards for some reason. I got an email from the tech support guy at Mach 3 and he told me this was not true at all, and that the card just needed to have ECP/EPP compatibilities. Also, I've read on this forum that there is also a problem with running mach 3 on a 64 bit system because the Parallel drivers dont work.

Is this a myth, or true. Anyone have experience?

talked to Ahren at CRP and he recommended the smooth stepper. I'm all for it, but with a $200 price tag I'll need to evaluate if the PCI expansion Parallel card is an option to keep build costs down.

    Thanks,

    Chuck

Hi Chuck. Welcome to the Zone!

It is true that mach3 will not function on 64 bit operating systems. It likes 32 bit XP the best.

Mach likes more PCI cards than the G540 does though. If you want to be safe, get this card, which is designed to work on both and can even give you 2 ports on a computer with NO parallel port:
