Shielded / Screened cables how to join?

    Hi guys.
Recently I had a stupid accident with my encoder cable (I cut it 50% of its cross section).
I've been searching for a while what is the best way to join it back. I know the correct is to buy a new cable but my budge is tight now.
Any ideas how to join all cores and the shielding as best as possible? I know it is dodgy...
    Cheers.

You perform a butt splice General Wire-Stripping Instructions
Cut back a portion of the outer cover and slide suitable dia heatshrink over the outer sheath, use heatshrink on each of the butt splices then slide the large out piece to cover all conductors.
If it has braid outer, you can often use metal tape or some suitable means of connecting each covering the overall connection.
It is most likely best to cut all conductors through and splice them all.
