    Drain Wire

On the shielded cable between VFD & spindle do you
attach the drain wire to VFD ground & spindle ?

    Thanks

    Bob,

I never run a drain wire on the 'service to' or 'output from' a VFD. When possible I run the high voltage lines in a metal conduit. I never run logic lines with high voltage lines. I always use a shielded cable with a drain on the logic lines. I ground the drain to earth ground. I never ground it at the VFD or axis drive amplifiers.

See ch6 on the current practice of connecting both ends of shield, appropriate equip-potential bonding must also be observed.

Earth ground conductor should be taken to the VFD and continued on to the frame of the motor.
