Smile Aid to test Step-Dir controllers

    Hi,

I have been looking for a long time for an aid to test "Step and Direction Controllers" in the field
and quite frankly up to now I have found nothing except a few circuits I have made myself up
in order to design repair and test CNC machines.

Perhaps you can recommend a commercial device, or like to work with me to make it happen.

    Greetings from England

Can you be more specific about what you are looking for?

Is it just a pulse generator, or something more capable and controllable?

Geckodrive has a simple "step and direction tester" pulse circuit on their support page that sends out step pulses at a fixed rate and alternates direction at a slower rate:

    Good morning USA,

Thanks for your kind posting. Great little circuit.

I have similar Pulse Generators, but in order to test a channel axis I need a more sophisticated device also.

Which enables me to incorporate acceleration deceleration, linear encoders to calibrate and test an axis on
    the bench or in situe.

Perhaps their is something on the market in the US ?

    Your help is much appreciated.

I am not familiar with any such device being available, although in the past I have considered designing and building such a thing.

EMC is free and has jog function, so has Mach 3 . Also with Mach and EMC you can use a pendant.

Of course you could also start with a rotary table indexer like this one, and then add the position sensing etc.:
