I'm working with the Taig DeArmond CNC, and I am looking at purchasing a fly cutter. I've found two relatively inexpensive cutters: DeArmonds 3/8 inch shank and Grizzlies 3 piece set fly cutters. Which will give a better finish? Why would I need three different sizes when they are all relatively the same size? Thanks for reading this.

DeArmond doesn't make those fly cutters (or the mills for that matter); they're a standard Taig accessory. Get the #1224ER with the 3/8" shank. You might have to resharpen the toolbit to get it to cut your material optimally. I don't know why you'd need 3 of them, and the bigger the radius, the more torque you'd need to run it. Taig's version is as large as you can realistically expect to work on the Taig mill; Grizzley sells machines that are much larger.

Thanks for the reply Andrew. Does the taig version accept my 3/8 in. lathe carbide cutters? Or, do I have to purchase replacement toolbits?
