    Hitachi WJ200-007MF Setting Help

    I bought a Hitachi VFD WJ200-007MF and a air-cooled spindle on ebay. In the box the seller included a note to informing me to run the spindle at a minimum of 100hz to allow for adequate cooling. I had made the following changes

    a003 120hz
    a004 400hz
    f001 30hz

    I tried running f001 at 60hz but I get a error. With f001 around 30-40hz the spindle gets warm after a few minutes so I turned it off and unplugged.

    Anyone with a working hitachi vfd care to share their settings? Very new and a bit lost how this all works.

    Haven't found setting for an hitachi but from what I can understand from the HY info I should set both my base frequency (a003) and my max frequency (a004) to 400?

    It looks like A062 is the lower limit frequency for the 100hz setting?
    That would be 6100rpm for a 2 pole motor.

    Al, thanks for sounding in. Working with current is very confusing to me. I'm not so much concerned as electrocuting myself as I am in destroying my equipment.

    I was wondering if A062 was the setting for the lowest operating frequency. Ecellent. F001 had confused me but I now understand this to be the RPM setting. I have no clue if the spindle is 2 or 4 poles and not that I understand the differences between the two but the factory setting is 4. I'll change that tonight along with the other setting.

    ok so 1hz = ~60rpm?

    I think I need to go back to school.

    .
    If it is a 24,000rpm motor it will be a 2 pole.
    RPM = applied Hzx60/motor pole-pairs.
    RPM = 400x60/1pr (2pole) = 24000.
    Due the the very low metal mass, they have very low inductance, so in order to keep the current down they have to be ran at a minimum rpm.
    If you ran them at say below 20Hz the frequency-dependent inductive reactance (in Ohms), is virtually equivalent to the resistance of the winding, (a few ohms) = burnt motor or VFD damage.

    First and foremost, Al big thanks.

    After a few frustrating hours I got the VFD to power the spindle. I did not know that higher functions are locked by default. Once I figured that out it was smooth sailing. The spindle runs cool and quiet. In comparison at around ~13000 rpm the router was at ~93db where the spindle is ~78db. As I increased to max speed there router went to ~97db and the spindle ~83db. This is at no load.

    My steps to setup were

    1. b037 to 00 for full display of all functions. You must press both the up and down arrows to access single-digit edit mode since this feature is not accessible in the default basic display.
    2. b031 to 10. This unlocks all the higher functions for editing.
    3. a004 to 400.
    4. a003 to 400.
    5. a062 to 100. Important for for cooled spindles.
    6. h004 to 2.

    Now you are ready to use f001 to control motor speed.

    Time to cut some mounting brackets.

    How do you unlock to get to the higher functions? -

    **nevermind, I did not read carefully enough. I see that it is a setting of B037 and B031.
