    best stepper for G540?

I am getting back into this for the second time. I am building another table and was wondering if there is any better of a stepper for the G540 than their was 2 years ago? last go around I had bought some steppers from keiling that were recommended by another member here.

    Thanks

You are limited to 50vdc, 3.5a per axis so pick a motor close to those specs and you'll get good performance. I use nema23 381oz 3a motors with a 48v power supply I got from Keling and it works very well.

The motors won't say 50VDC on their nameplates, even though you can run them with that voltage. They would be marked at something like 2V. There's a ratio of motor inductance to power supply voltage that's described here, in Section 6: http://www.geckodrive.com/support.html

Geckodrive now sells stepper motors as well as the G540 drives. Their NEMA 23 motors would probably be a good fit, but you could ask them about it.

I don't think you'll find any better than the 381oz motors from keling http://www.automationtechnologiesinc...flat-381-oz-in

Doing the math (square root of the inductance *32) to find the ideal voltage you end up with 53 volts.

The 320 oz motors from cncrouterparts have the same voltage and amperage specs as the keling 381's, and claim more torque at higher speeds than their 380 oz motors ( no surprise since they would ideally be run at 65 volts), but how the 320 and 381 compare who knows. My bet is the keling 381's would be slightly better.

Gecko doesn't have anything close to the same performance.

    Re: best stepper for G540?

I want to bring this thread back up since the last time when I started this thread my plans were De - railed a bit with some personal issues but I am full steam ahead for sure this time and have already spent some real coin on materials. So is there anything else out right now that is just the best hands down for the g540?

Surprisingly, I don't think there's anything new or better than the 381 Oz motors from keling in the link I posted. They are designed to handle the full force of the g540.

    Im using steppers from homeshopcnc.com

They work perfect (for 5 years now!) and are optimized for geckodrives.

Eta: The 5 year set is on 203Vs and I have a 2 year old set of steppers on the G540. No problems on either.

I would order the motors from CNC router parts as well as the cables. Those motors already have the resistors and the DB9 plugs that fits the G540. Very nice not having to fiddle with that.

    Re: best stepper for G540?

The question shouldn't be what is the best motor for the G540, but, what is the best motor for my machine.

As an example, a Taig CNC mill you will get much better machine performance using a 160 oz.in -190oz.in motor than you will with a 380oz.in motor.

You need to size the motor to the machine, not the driver.

    Cheers,

    Peter
