Cool Putting Z Axis CNC on Quill Vs Z table lift

    Hi

Ive seen some places put the "Z" Axis CNC on the Quill and some put it on the Bridgeports "Z" table lift.
I understand the power torque difference from one to the other but I am not to sure about the precision.
I would preferr using the table "Z" lift for the extra travel distance.
Anyone have any iput on this?

It's a lot more effort/money to put z on the knee. I agree it would be nice. Sometimes you will find one of the cnc ballscrew pedestals on ebay.

While occasionally it is nice to have more travel, you learn to keep your tools within a certain length[no drill chucks while using multiple tools] and it doesn't bug you as much as you would think. Remember the knee is still there, just like a manual mill

The z on the knee is tough when drilling, slow, and tends to backlash
