    CALIFORNIA AIR TOOLS

Anyone have experience with them? Seems like a no-brainer when trying to eliminate compressor noise from the shop....

jid2 owns one of their 10 gallon Ultra Quiet compressors. He mentions it in his PM45 thread:

I have the 4620 2 HP model, it works great, fills fast (abut 30 seconds), and is much quieter than a normal compressor. My shop is in the basement so noise was a big concern. Highly recommended.

I have a 10020 too. I got it after seeing jid2's thread. It's very quiet (for an air compressor) and seems to be a great so far. I also have a Dewalt air compressor (a D55146 I think) and the California Air is definitely quieter. The Dewalt goes up to ~200 PSI though.

By the way, I got mine from "Wayfair" and by signing up for some newsletter or something I got a 10% off coupon. Perhaps that deal is still going on; I'd say it's something to look into.

ok, so definitely seems like the value is worthwhile.

do those of you that have them run a PDB or ATC or both? i'm looking at the CAT-1740 and hoping can provide enough volume and pressure to run both of those devices and also provide shop air.

I moved my noisy 80 gallon 2 stage compressor out into a Tuffshed. Ran 220V underground with the copper air distribution plumbing. Does matter how loud the compressor is now.

I have the 6 gallon unit (6310 or whatever it is?). Also very happy with it and the noise levels.. Got it from wayfair using a 20% coupon they had a while ago, free shipping etc. Turned out incredibly cheap!

The CFMs are fairly low, but for my purposes (running a fogbuster and a PDB) it's just fine. When the machine is cutting, I can hardly tell if the compressor is on or off. I live in an old house, which isn't huge. The compressor is in the basement and I sleep in the ground floor. The main reason I got the california air tools compressor was I wanted to be able to leave the machine running to finish a long part and still be able to sleep upstairs! Well, I can't hear the compressor upstairs, but the machine itself is a different story
