Laser Pro Mercury 1 Synrad 48-2

I've got a GCC Laser Pro Mercury machine with a Synrad 25w 48-2 tube installed... When removing it yesterday I noticed that there was a small twin core wire coming from the front of the tube were the beam is produced.

I'm confused I believed that the large red and black are power wires. The small black BNC wire was the control so what does this other twin core wire do?

It comes from the front of the tube and does not look what Synrad would install it looks like a mod ? There is a few LEDs in the machine display panel do they control these ?

I have a standard synrad 48-2 tube I want to replace it with but I don't want to untill I know what this does !

    Any help please regards

    Phil

If there is a shutter, it is most likely as switch as KTP suggested. This switch could be used to disable the laser when the shutter is closed so that you don't blast your shutter with 25W of laser beam.

It could also be for a red laser beam combiner. The Synrad ones are here: http://www.synrad.com/beamdelivery/1.25%20Series.pdf on page 7.
It could be an older model or another manufacturer too.

A picture would most likely solve the mystery.
