I'm not certain, but is taking a screencap of a copyrighted image, saving it and then posting the saved image on a forum such as this a breach of copyright....I'm not throwing a fox in the hen house here, I often use screencapped images myself, but I don't want Switcher or anyone else to get into trouble so I thought it was worth mentioning.... ... we can still post the links to the copyrighted images and everyone can take their own screencaps!

if that was the case with a free software , wouldn t taking any screen cap on a windows based machine be a copyright violation
Billy's coming for ya !

What is the size of that piece? Also did you produce the file for it are is it posted in the forum?, as I would like a try at marking one.
Dan
lol......Well technically I think copyright law defines a violation as re-distributing a copyrighted image. This assumes that you legally hold the image in the first place (If someone gave you the image illegally then they would be in violation, not you). So I think if you screen-cap it for your own use then you'll get off on a technicality....
That looks great. Did you use the 'gmax method' for it?

The screenshot was of my image that I posted on that site, I added my image then I took a screenshot of my image.
I can take my screenshot & do what I want with it.
It's really funny how, some folks will grab a file that's posted, then others yell copyright this copyright that.
I only post files here to try & help other members out, I was new to all this once myself.
I've decided to remove what files I could, that I posted here, & I won't post anymore here. Sorry about that for the guys that I might have helped, goes to show that some folks don't want to be helped.
I'll build my own site & add the URL to my sig., later.

well thanks to you anyway, Switcher, I for one appreciated all the help you gave here-
Dave->..
Hey Switcher I dont think any body was being mean here, I think they are just worried about you and not getting in to trouble and Im not sure how this copy right thing works. I think that at the most part if the file is for private use im sure no one cares, I rember when I went to the mall and saw some intarsia from a certain country,(Im sure every one know which on) They were disney figures or very simular, Me being a intarsia artist was not happy so I took it up with a disney gift shop close by and asked them about it and they said theres nothing they can do about it as it did not have a disney logo or such, they were just simular. So if disney wont do crap I doupt any one eles will. So please dont take your toys from the sand box.Ive already used a few files you loaded here for a gate I did for my girlfreinds home and it looked great. Graham
I realize that the Moderators are trying to do what they think is right, BUT maybe they should talk to Paul and see about getting the right info from a creditable source. How about asking a copyright lawyer!!! I really think that 99% of the images posted would not be considered copyright infringement. The basic problem with all the information going around it that most is not right and there is nobody willing to check it out.
As far as I am concerned, this was a great learning place as I have tried some of the posts. I have learned a few things but am getting concerned because it is as if everyone is an expert at copyright, but no one will check to see what is the real law. Also, don't forget that different regions has different views on the laws.
Keep up the great work guys, Switcher, fabulous work you have done. A shame to lose because no moderators or owners will check the official rulings for the US since this is a US owned board.
Just my 2 cents worth.
I'm a little fuzzy on the details.
Switcher posted a screenshot of an image that he created, and someone had a problem with it? Did the moderators remove it? If so, it sounds like a knee-jerk reaction from someone trying to cover their own a**.
Unbelieveable. On the Clinton-Obama-McCain poll, the posters are trading insults. CNCZone is better than this.
Switcher, don't get mad. It isn't worth it.
Forgiving heals the wound. Forgetting removes the scar.
Did I miss something here? I'd say that well over 99% of the images posted here are still here. What exactly are you referring to? The Air Force post? Forum rules say no Copyrighted or Trademarked images. The Air Force logos are Trademarked. And Sorry, but we don't have time to check for copyrights on every image posted here. That's the members responsibility to not post them. What I do, is assume all company logos and cartoon and comic characters are copyrighted material, which more than likely 99.9% of them are.

No ger not the airforce one, switch uploaded a few files for us to share but took them off infear of copyrights. If you look back a few posts youll see switcher has a few empty posts. By the way that airforce one kind of looks like a transformer picture, The movie transformer I mean. wonder if thats a transformer copyright that the airforce used lol. Kidding. Graham
Ger21, I am referring to the fact that as this thread started, there has been nothing but copyright issues. Why can't someone get this straightened out now before people stop posting. I have seen copyright material that has been removed, but when people remove their post because of all the bellyaching about copyrights, then I think something should be done.
As for the Air force post, no that is not the issue as I have not checked that one out.
What I am saying is that if people wish to post dfx files then lets get a clear ruling on what is COPYRIGHT and what is ok to post. That is what I am talking about.
Just my 2 cents worth
I don't know who was complaining, but Switcher removed the posts, and I don't think the moderators had anything to do with it. If he posted the image, then he can check if it's copyrighted or not.
Again, that's the users responsibility. The only way to know for sure is to contact the author or owner of the images, or characters or logos.
And I wouldn't say there have been nothing but problems with this thread. Very few images have been removed.

Gerry,
If there had been a big TM or (c) on the image, would that be acceptable? Not being sarcastic, just curious.
No. Read the forum rules.
